Network scan importer

Versio.io can scan networks to help you verify the completeness of the detected IP-based devices, such as hosts, routers, switches, network printers, etc. The network scanner identifies devices using various methods:

  • Reading the ARP table
  • Pinging the IP address
  • Reverse DNS lookup (NsLookup)
  • Establishing a connection to a port
  • Establishing a connection via SNMP

Attention

Unlike other Versio.io importers, the detected devices are not saved as Versio.io instances!

The results are available in the Discovery & Insights dashboard (Environment settings -> OneImporter & OneGate -> Discovery & insights tab). The results indicate whether the device already exists as an instance in Versio.io or is unknown. To help you navigate, we display additional details for unknown devices, such as network names or manufacturers.

Configuration

The following configuration options are available:

Profile

You can choose between three different profiles. The more network requests the scanner sends, the faster it will complete the scan. Be aware that too many network requests could slow down your network!

Profile Network traffic Estimated duration
Fast ~50 IPs per minute ~5 minutes for a /24 subnet
Medium ~20 IPs per minute ~15 minutes for a /24 subnet
Slow ~2 IPs per minute ~2 hours for a /24 subnet

Auto detect networks

With this option enabled, the executing OneGate will scan every connected IPv4 network. To avoid scanning large virtual networks, auto-detection skips network interfaces with a randomized MAC (such as docker networks). If your OneGate uses a randomized MAC in the network you want to scan, you might have to add it to the networks configuration below.

Networks

Enter networks which should be scanned additionaly to the auto-detected networks. Enter the networks IP address followed by the network mask (CIDR notation e.g. 192.168.0.0/24). Make sure at least one executing OneGate has access to the network or it cant be scanned!
